The Center for Innovative Teaching, Research, and Learning (CITRAL) promotes research-based learning design, pedagogical innovations, and supportive learning communities.

What is CITRAL?

CITRAL provides departments, instructors, teaching assistants and learning assistants:

  • Expert pedagogical consultation for face-to-face, hybrid and online teaching
  • Research-based seminars, workshops, institutes and certificates
  • Online resources for course design and evaluation & support for evaluating and documenting teaching
  • Assistance with university-supported teaching technologies along with the administration of grant programs in support of teaching excellence
  • Data reports to enable strategic curricular and course improvements
  • Research collaborations with a wide range of UCSB departments in support of teaching and learning initiatives.

Dr. Maria Isabel Bueno Cachadina, Math Department
Professor Bueno is conducting a research study on how a curated Gemini Gem (AI) can support student learning in her Matrix Analysis course. This study is funded by a UCSB Innovation Grant for Research on Designing Learning with Artificial Intelligence.
